Hiraeth Creature #278 - Eleepa

Description

Swift as the wind, Eleepa are small flying beasts that make their homes throughout the forests of Hiraeth, starting from its very heart and veining out in all directions. They silently fly in the wilds, often going unnoticed by travellers-- during the day they casually dart between the shadows of trees, but at night they flock together to snatch up tiny bugs, drink nectar, and find fruits to devour. They rally together to share scents so others in the forest know where to find food. Eleepa have also proven to be vital to caravans; most caravans carry a few of these creatures, trained to deliver messages across the world and eventually return. What many travellers make use of are magically grown trees meant to attract Eleepa, often adorned with a small lantern, either fixed to the tree or placed inside it. Inside are messages sent by nomads that others can read, usually detailing resources in the area or warning of dangers. Sometimes poetry and stories end up in these trees as well from writers just wanting to add extra entertainment to the road. These trees are called "caravan roosts". They can be a boon when lost, and a nice touch of comfort in the onerous wilds. Because of this, Eleepa are vital part of the traveller's way of life.

This is one of my favorite creatures of yours. It's a tiny messenger creature with curly horns and hooves on it's wings! What's not to like? I'd certainly like to have one in my Hiraeth group. I'm not actually sure of where I'd like to live in Hiraeth. I imagine I'd have a nice little cozy home somewhere near the forests, but I'd definitely do quite a bit of traveling to find new creatures to tame and befriend. Maybe something partially underground like a hobbit hole. It would have to be big enough to accommodate all of my creatures, though.
