Hiraeth Creature #676 - Obelrom

The tallest peaks of Hiraeth are the thrones of Mountain Princes, looking down on their courts where spirits and other whimsical beings reside. The true heart of where these mystical going-ons take place is somewhat lost to travellers. Explorers will know if they’re close if they happen upon the large, armed totems, held by four hoof-like prongs and emitting a pink glow. These living beacons are the Obelrom, often looking inanimate from a distance– their small wispy head emerges once another creatures comes up close to them. Their presence marks places of importance to the revered Earthen Maiden, who gave the mountains to her sons and claimed shrines along its ranges.

The Obelrom are peaceful upon approach, but were carved by the Earthen Maiden as guards first and foremost. Capable of swinging and moving their stone limbs quite freely, and with each arms ending in a pair of large pincers, they are cable of cunning maneuvers if combat becomes needed. Usually their first response to those encroaching on the mountains is to snap and break weapons while still in their owners hands– Obelrom are made of such thick and arcane stone no normal weapon can hurt them, but they wish to disarm aggressors if they can to prevent harm to others. They can also channel their incredible flame through their arms to scale opponents with clawing strikes, or to simply burst sparks and cinders outwards to scare them away, lest they be caught in the inferno. If deadly beasts roam the mountain peaks, the Obelrom focus on burning their flames as brightly as can be, so the Mountain Princes or any others can be rallied. These brilliant flames could be seen across mountain sides during the Giant’s March, when legions of monstrosities scaled the mountains.
