Hiraeth Creature #280 - Orphan Shadow

Throughout the swamps of Hiraeth, outcasts find places to hide away from the world. A small heap of tattered cloth is one of these outsiders, waddling about aimlessly and uselessly pecking at the ground. From far away, it looks benign, but look up close and the Orphan Shadow gains an abnormal presence. They come from a group of ragged creatures who linger in the swamp, believed to be the lost familiars or last remnants of the ancient witch covens that were banished a long time ago. The Orphan Shadow gained its name and infamy from the unique spell it casts on itself, allowing its shadow to loom over the corporeal world and strike at others, or sink into the ground so the Orphan Shadow can hide. Other, less nefarious mages have said to of learned this spell by observing them. Stories say these apostate creatures use their phantom limbs to snatch away children into the Deep Realm, but incantations and enchanted incense made by contemporary witches revolts them and keeps them hiding in the moors.
